Our Love-Hate Relationship With Insurance

Q: Do you take my insurance?

Sort of. All of our services are covered by your monthly membership. We care for patients with all types of insurance (HMSA, Kaiser, Medicare, Med-QUEST, etc.), including those who don’t have insurance at all. We don’t bill your insurance for our services but we will help you use your insurance for things like medications, labs, and imaging.

Q: Will my insurance cover the cost of my monthly membership with Ke Ola Noa?

Maybe. If you have an HSA/FSA account, you may be able to use those funds to pay for our monthly membership, which is $200/month. Because each plan is different, you would need to talk to your insurance company and/or employer to find more details. We are happy to provide an invoice of our services, if needed.

Q: What other fees will I have to pay?

Unlike with traditional healthcare, there are no hidden fees. The only other potential cost from Ke Ola Noa is a re-enrollment fee of $150 for members who leave and then decide to return. We’re building long-term relationships, not on-again/off-again Waikiki trolley service! Otherwise, nope, no copays, no late fees, no no-show fees, and no no-fee fees.

Q: Okay, but am I tied to you for some minimum time (e.g., one year)?

Nope, membership is month-to-month and you can cancel anytime. Our priority is that you find a primary care team that you trust and want to partner with to live your fullest and healthiest life. And even if it’s not us, we still count that as a win! We also know that life happens (e.g., your finances change, you’re moving to another state, etc.), and we want you to be free to health your own way.

Q: I want to join, but why don’t you bill insurance?

We’ve chosen not to bill insurance so we can focus on what matters most—taking care of our community. Insurance billing comes with outside rules and heavy paperwork that pull time away from patients. Our membership model keeps things simple, costs transparent, allows us to be available for our patients when they need us, and supports the kind of unrushed, relationship-based care we believe in. Our mission is to focus on people, not paperwork.
